A CABOOLTURE Hospital midwife has been honoured with the Queensland Midwife of the Year award.
Jade Mudiman has been a midwife at the hospital since 2006, and was nominated by one of her patients.
Ms Mudiman said the award was a big surprise.
``It’s absolutely amazing to receive the award. I’m very honoured,’’ she said.
``It is an absolute privilege to be nominated, let alone win.’‘
The award recognises the skills of outstanding midwives around the country.
More than 1000 nominations were received for the award.
Ms Mudiman said hearing the mother who nominated her speak so highly of her work when given the award had been ``amazing’‘.
``To hear what she had to say, it really makes the job worthwhile,’’ she said.
Caboolture Hospital executive director and director of nursing and midwifery, Caroline Weaver, said the award was deserved. ``Jade is a highly regarded member of our maternity team at Caboolture Hospital and she is well respected by her colleagues for her skill,’’ she said.
Ms Mudiman is now in the running for the Australian Midwife of the Year award, which is chosen from state winners.
She chose to specialise in midwifery after first working as a nurse.
``I wanted to do something more with my nursing. I just love being a part of the whole experience,’’ she said.
